Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC)

Basal Cells are the most common type of skin cancer. They can come anywhere that a person has been exposed to the sun however they are mostly found on the head, neck, chest, and hands. They appear like a red patch or fleshy bump. They usually grow slowly over many months or even years. These lesions will sometime bleed and crust over but never fully heal. Over time they can extend below the skin into the bone and nerves to cause other local damage if not treated. There are several types of treatment for Basal Cell Carcinomas. First if they are real early then they can be treated with electrodessication and curettage (scraping and burning) or a topical chemotherapy (cream). If they are full grown then they need to have either a standard excision or be treated with Mohs surgery depending on the severity and location of Basal Cell Carcinoma.
