Actinic Keratoses (AK)

Actinic Keratoses are also sometimes referred to as Solar Keratoses are considered pre-cancerous. They usually start out as small scaly spots that some times flake off but always comeback in the same places. These Actinic Keratoses will continue to recur until they have been treated. Treatment options include cryotherapy (freezing), topical chemotherapy (creams), chemical peeling, dermabrasion, laser surgery, curettage, or photodynamic therapy (a photosensitizing chemical is placed on skin then you are exposed to a light source). If left untreated then Actinic Keratoses can progress to full grown skin cancers that would require more advanced surgical treatments.
